The Herald, the daily broadsheet published by Newsquest Herald & Evening Times Group has promoted its deputy editor Magnus Llewellin to editor.

Llewellin, who has also worked at The Edinburgh Evening News, The Daily Record and Business AM, will take on the role immediately, the publisher has said.

He said: "I am delighted to take on what I regard to be the best job in Scottish journalism at such an important time in this nation's history."

Llewellin takes on the role from editor-in-chief Jonathan Russell who left late last yearas a protest against further budget cuts being introduced into the Glasgow newspaper publisher.
