CNN host Piers Morgan, with the number of Americans wanting to deport him for his anti-gun views now past 47,000, is engaged in an all-out battle on the twitterverse with support from some unlikely quarters.

Piers Morgan

It all started on Tuesday, when following the Newtown massacre, th ex-Mirror editor interviewed Gun Owners of America executive director Larry Pratt.

When Pratt suggested more, not fewer, weapons as the solution Morgan was incredulous.

"You're an unbelievably stupid man, aren't you?" Morgan asked during the heated debate. "You have absolutely no coherent argument. You don't actually give a damn about the gun murder rate in America."

Thay was enough to launch the petition on the White house website, started by angry gun enthusiasts. Morgan mischievously encouraged his fans to add their names to the petition.

One fan told him" I think the petition demanding a DeathStar be built has more legs than your deportation one."

Shane Gillen ‏@GillenMagic, said , "Like him or loathe him, shame on America if they deport @piersmorgan for expressing sane views on the slaughter of 20 innocent children."

Harriet Baldwin was less supportive,"@piersmorgan You are not "facing deportation" .... yet. It's only a petition you attention whore."

Canadian Louise Coutu ‏tweeted, @piersmorgan Absolutely ridiculous...what ever happened to freedom of speech...or does that only apply to Americans? #proudtobe canadian

Tennis star Martina Navratilova ‏@Martina tweeted ,"CRAZY: Petition To Deport Piers Morgan Over Gun Views Gains Traction http://huff.to/12KACP3 attacking the messenger instead of the message?"

John Prescott ‏@johnprescott tweeted“@SkyNews: Piers Morgan: Thousands Want Him Deported”

From Britain Frankie Boyle tweeted "Nobody in Britain wants Piers Morgan to be deported. We'd much rather he was strangled in his bed by Santa."

Tony Parsons ‏@TonyParsonsUK said, "Thousands of Americans want Piers Morgan deported for stating that America has too many guns. And millions of Americans agree with him."

Later Piers himself tweeted ‏@piersmorgan "Americans murdered with assault weapons in movie theaters, temples, schools, shopping malls - now, as they put out fires. Where does it end?"

"I don't care about petition to deport me. I do care about poor NY firefighters murdered/injured with an assault weapon today. "

A gun fan tweeted @piersmorgan "Try protecting your family from a 500lb bear with a pistol! Go back to GB and hunt some foxes."

At one point Piers tweeted, "If I do get deported from America for wanting fewer gun murders, are there any other countries that will have me?#havebaggagewilltravel.

From all over the world came invitations to him to go and live there. From the Philippines a tweeter told him, "It's more FUN in the Philippines!"

From Nigeria," RT @joanalii22: @piersmorgan Nigeria would love to have you. Half of Nigerians on twitter follow you :)! You're always welcome."

From Sierra Leone came the message, from RT @jisyhair:" @piersmorgan Sierra Leone.we'll feed you, good weather & give you tv to watch premier league".

From Malaysia " @piersmorgan Malaysia!we need you here,sir!m

From Australia ,"G'day, and thank you > RT @angii84: @piersmorgan come to Australia. "

As the signatures passed the 20,000 mark (25,000 mandated a response from the White house) Piers Morgan tweeted

"Just 4821 signatures needed to take my deportation petition to the point Obama has to respond. I urge you to sign:https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/deport-british-citizen-piers-morgan-attacking-2nd-amendment/
