Google has published its customary end of year summary of the top searches to be made over the past year, producing a list which suggests that Euro 2012 was more popular than the Olympics.

The football tournament topped a list of trending searches over the past 12 months, closely followed by punters seeking to get hold of Olympics tickets and music fans hunting for news on Whitney Houston’s death, just pipping Kate Middleton.

Golden boy Andy Murray meanwhile took the crown for most searched for Olympian of 2012, after snatching gold and winning the US open.

The so called Zeitgeist report revealed the most searched for celebrities, Olympians, events and trends based on internet searches conducted from the UK.
