Getty Images has announced the appointment of Yvonne Chien as senior vice president, marketing, replacing Jim Gurke who in October announced his decision to retire at the end of the year.

Chien has held the role of vice president of marketing with Getty Images since 2010, overseeing customer segmentation and digital marketing strategies. In 2011, Chien took responsibility for the overall brand strategy of Getty Images, including the appointment of R/GA London as the company’s brand and digital agency of record.

In her new role, Chien will handle the global marketing organisation, overseeing Getty Images’ brand portfolio, as well as marketing channels and functional disciplines.

Prior to joining Getty Images, Chien held senior marketing positions with various internet companies, including Google and Bebo.

Speaking of her appointment, Chien commented: “It is inspiring to work for a company which continues to innovate and grow its offering and its platforms.”

Chief operating officer at Getty Images, Nick Evans-Lombe, added: “Since joining Getty Images, Yvonne has raised the standard of performance across the marketing function, continually challenging assumptions and analysing the impact of our marketing efforts. We are excited about all Yvonne can bring to the Senior Vice President of Marketing role and the company in 2013 and beyond.”
