Team GB’s surprisingly strong performance at the Olympics has spurred a clamour for news of their sporting prowess amongst the public, with sales of the Daily Mail, Mail and Mail on Sunday as well as the Times all experiencing an uplift.

The Sunday Times and Times are currently leading the pack with an increase of around 70,000 copies over an ordinary weekend, adding a cumulative 114,000 editions over the Games period, just behind a one of 107,000 copies of the Saturday Times following the opening ceremony.

The Times has now sold an estimated 186,000 extra copies since the Olympic flame was lit.

It’s not all good news though, the circulation of both The Sun and Daily Star have slipped, the former shedding 150,000 and 110,000 sales respectively over the period.

The timely fillip provides a welcome reprieve for titles battling long term sales decline.
