Scotland on Sunday yesterday increased its cover price to £2 – 70p more than its major indigenous rival the Sunday Herald.

In a message to his readers, SOS’s editor, Ian Stewart, said: “You may have noticed we’re bringing you a bumper Scotland on Sunday this week , with our 16-page [Edinburgh] Festival guide in addition to your usual five-section paper.

“You will also have noticed the price of Scotland on Sunday has today gone up to £2. Commercial pressures have made this rise necessary, but at £2 we believe we’re still offering you great value for money.”

Stewart goes on to inform readers that they can get the paper at a much reduced price through subscription deals – effectively cutting the cover price to £1.35p.

He ends: “We remain committed to giving you the most insightful and entertaining journalism in Scotland, with the country’s best writers, photographers and commentators.

“We’re very proud of what we do, and we’re delighted to have you with us.”
