Midlands integrated marketing agency Cogent Elliott has confirmed that Mike Phillipson, managing director of Big Communications is to become CEO at the agency, as current CEO Tim Pile becomes executive chairman.

As reported by The Drum yesterday, Phillipson will join Midlands rivals after two year at Big, and will report directly to Pile, who will concentrate on the strategic direction of the agency and spend more time focusing on client needs.

“We are now moving on to the next stage of our vision and as a consequence we need to make sure we can continue to focus on developing current client relationships and new business, whilst also driving into new markets and embracing new opportunities,” explained Pile.

“Basically, we’ve grown consistently year on year. We have welcomed 140 more people into the business since 2006. Five years ago we set out to build an outstanding integrated marketing agency that helps its clients build their businesses. This addition to our management team helps us on that journey,” he added.

Phillipson added: “It’s an exciting time for Cogent. The agency has a terrific heritage and with its continued investment in Digital, Planning and PR – to name a few - we’re in a strong position to offer our clients an enhanced and truly integrated service - which is backed up with creative excellence and a broad strategic understanding of clients’ businesses.

“It’s a privilege to be invited to join an outstanding agency that has ambitious plans and it’s fantastic that I will now be part of the next phase of growth.”

Phillipson will take up his new post on 6 August.
