NatWest is set to launch a four month near field communications trial using the ‘TouchPay’ app for 1,000 iPhone 4s and iPhone 4 customers.

Each person involved in the trial will get a free iCarte case that will work with MasterCard PayPass terminals, with users able to configure the app to require a PIN or not to validate a payment of £20 or less.

NatWest said in a statement: "This is a trial of a new service and therefore is only available for users of iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 at this time. We hope to make TouchPay available for other smart phones in the future."
