Andy Coulson, the former editor of News of the World, has been detained by the Strathclyde Police this morning, on suspicion of committing perjury in the Tommy Sheridan trial in 2010.

He was arrested at 6.30 this morning at his London home by the officers, and is being taken to Glasgow to be questioned.

A police spokeswoman has said: "Officers acting for Strathclyde Police Operation Rubicon detained a 44-year-old man in London this morning under Section 14 of the Criminal Procedure Scotland Act on suspicion of committing perjury at the High Court in Glasgow.”

Sheridan was released in January after spending time in jail for lying under oath during his defamation case against News of the World in 2006.
