Brits are expected to spend 25% more than usual on treats during the Jubilee weekend, a YouGov survey carried out for Mars Chocolate.

Survey results predict an extra £334m will be spent on snacks and alcohol during the Jubilee weekend compared to a regular weekend.

The survey also found that sales of treats are expected to rise 18% during the Euro 2012 football championships and 14% during the Olympics.

Bep Dhaliwal, trade communications manager at Mars Chocolate, told The Grocer: “The weather is finally warming up and Jubilee celebrations are promising to be the first jewel in a crown of multiple British retail opportunities this summer.”
