Children as young as seven are to be introduced to the charms of an art gallery through a series of short films after BBC Learning commissioned design firm Somethin Else to produce the flicks.

The clips will complement the BBC’s existing Your Paintings website and will be aired on late night BBC Two on April16/17 before being added to the Learning Zone’s Class Clips online database.

Each film will be presented by Eleanor Nairne of arts organisation Artangel and will depict the world of oil painting through animation and illustration.

This will give a light hearted and humorous introduction to ten key paintings currently on display in galleries throughout the UK.

Ian Sharpe, Head of Video, Somethin' Else, says: "These films are designed to demystify art for children and encourage them to check out the real paintings in their local art gallery. Together with our recent projects, they reflect Somethin' Else's extensive experience in creating engaging content across a variety of platforms for young audiences."
