Justin Bieber’s army of fans have earned themselves a collective Guinness World Record for the most social media messages sent in a 24 hour period – after being rallied to do so by their idol in a charity bid.

Collectively they issued an impressive 322,224 tweets and re-tweets of Bieber’s rallying call on March 1, easily beating the previous record of 209,771 mentions recorded by a Beat Cancer Anywhere campaign in 2009.

Bieber has amassed a sizeable 17.8m followers on Twitter and garnered 40.8m ‘likes’ on Facebook.

Guinness still has to verify the final tally with confirmation expected shortly.
