Fed up with the glass and composite plastic wares churned out by traditional smartphone manufacturers an enterprising designer has crafted his own low tech casing for the hi tech gadget.

Middlesex University student Kieron-Scott Woodhouse has used a single block of bamboo to carve out the casing for his concept ADzero branded Android smartphone.

With obvious sustainability credentials the gadget quickly caught the attention of investors who financed this prototype model which Woodhouse claims is “just as strong as any kind of plastic”.

Production version models are now in the works with UK tech fans able to get their hands on the bio-phone later in the year.
