The Sims 3 has announced a partnership with the Chortle Student Comedy Awards, with the hunt for the best student comedians in the country kicking off today.

The Sims 3 sponsorship coincides with the release of The Sims 3 Showtime, which allows users to go from rags to riches and track their rise to fame.

Chortle editor Steve Bennett said: “We’re delighted that this year’s Chortle Student Comedy Award will be powered by The Sims 3. It’s a great brand for students, and its sponsorship of So You Think You’re Funny? at the Edinburgh Fringe last year proved its commitment to helping find the best new comic talent.

“We’ve seen some great acts come through the competition over the past eight years – and admittedly a few shockers too – and we can’t wait to get on the road to see what this year might bring.”

Claire Ridley, marketing manager for The Sims 3, added: “We’re absolutely delighted and proud that The Sims 3 is able to be involved with the Chortle Student Comedy Award. We’re dedicated to continuing the integration of the world’s biggest PC gaming franchise with grass roots comedy. So, with this being such a fantastic initiative with a rich heritage of discovering new talent, it was the ideal opportunity to show that support.”

Twelve heats will take place around the country in February and March, followed by semi-finals in May and a grand final at the Edinburgh Fringe in August.
