BSkyB has purchased a 10% stake in Zeebox, the social media app, as it integrates the platform into its own mobile applications.

It will allow users of Sky+ and Sky Go who are accessing programming on the move to track what friends are watching and respond to tweets and status updates.

Emma Lloyd, BSkyB’s director of emerging products, said: “We know that millions of our customers have smartphones and tablets and regularly use them to engage with Sky on mobile devices, so it's a natural next step for us.”

Launched by the BBCs former technology chief Anthony Rose just two months ago, Zeebox combines social networking with live programme information and real time viewing figures.
