High Street chemist chain Boots has come under fire for stocking a range of sex aids in its stores, adjacent to products such as reading glasses and blood pressure monitors.

The Daily Mail has warned that such practices make it likely that they will be seen by bemused children and others merely hunting for a sarnie.

Advertised under a “sexual wellbeing” banner the prominent displays include unopened products and detailed descriptions.

Boots currently stocks sex toys at just under half of its 2,500 stores nationwide advising that it is in response to customer demand.

A Boots spokesperson said: “There are no laws restricting the sale of these products. However, if someone who looks under 16 tries to buy such a product, Boots staff would use their discretion to decide whether it is suitable for them.”
