Creative marketing agency WRG Creative Communication has released a short piece of animation that was shown at Old Trafford to more than 500 guests at last week's United for Children fundraising dinner organised by WRG client Manchester United on behalf of UNICEF.

This is the first year that a film has been commissioned and produced for the fund raising event, the piece being entitled ‘12 Wishes for Children’ and focusing on the main areas of fund-raising to provide 12 simple items or services required to improve and protect children across the globe.

WRG senior designer Shane Richardson came up with the idea of using the 12 icons to recreate the powerful imagery supplied by UNICEF from their recent relief project in Senegal. The piece was produced in Adobe After Effects, making the most of Trapcode's Particular plug in. The icons are used in particle systems with dynamic movement, eventually resolving to form an image made up of tens of thousands of icons. The emotive film concludes with a festive bauble, representing the 12 Wishes for Children which Manchester United and UNICEF have joined forces to try and fulfill. As the animation was heavily computationally intensive WRG utilised their in-house render farm to ensure a quick turnaround and timely delivery.

The film played on the two main 60” plasmas on stage, the venue’s 12 in house plasmas and we rear projected it on to white drape which ran the entire 55 metres of the room to act as an animated wall.

Guests at the annual gala dinner guests included the Manchester United first team, Sir Alex Ferguson, stars from Coronation Street, Emmerdale and The Only Way is Essex, local businesses, sponsors and members of the public. Singer Emile Sande also performed a 45-minute set supported by Area D and X Factor’s Laura White.

A spokesperson for Man Utd’s events team said: “We’ve never had anything like this film before so it is something new for us and kept the room engaged too. We were very happy indeed with the film and it looked great on the night.”
