One-in-three magazine publishers face closure in 2012, report claims

One-in-three magazine publishers are at risk of failure in 2012,while over 4,000 employees could be out of work, according to analytical company Plimsoll.

The business intelligence firm has said in a new report that nearly a third of UK magazine publishers could face closure, while naming 192 companies as ‘prime takeover targets’, while next year could also lead to thousands of jobs being lost within the industry.

According to the report, 293 companies were in 'danger', while 73 were listed as 'caution', 123 were rated as 'Mediocre', 81 as 'good' and 426 as 'Strong'.

The report also claimed that overtrading was ‘still prevalent’ with 139 companies continuing to chase sales.
