Al Jazeera Sport to open temporary London base for 2012 Olympics
Al Jazeera Sport is hoping to build a temporary TV studio on London’s South Bank, for use during next year’s Olympic Games.
The broadcaster, based in Qatar, holds exclusive Middle East viewing rights for the Olympics and wants to establish a presence for the games in the heart of London.
Al Jazeera Sport has asked to erect a temporary structure on the Thames Path, at a site close to the ITV Television Centre. The studio would be connected to and utilise ITV’s technical facilities.
If its bid is successful, Al Jazeera Sport’s studio will remain up throughout July and August next year, and be used for live transmissions from 27th July to 12 August.
Lambeth council is currently considering the broadcaster’s planning application.
