Yahoo! Is to extend its social news integration across the UK and Europe through Facebook.

The Yahoo! Activity feature that appear on Yahoo! News pages will now feature a Facebook sharing function which will allow news to be shared with friends who will also be able to view what their friends are reading on Yahoo!

Since its launch in the US at the beginning of the year, Yahoo! Activity has seen 11 million people ‘opt in’ to the experience, increasing traffic from Facebook to Yahoo! News in the US by 600%, it has said.

“As the world’s most popular online news destination, Yahoo! News delivers the most compelling content on the Web through a combination of local editors, advanced technologies, and now, your friends,” said James Wildman, Yahoo!’s UK managing director and vice-president of sales.

He added: “The strength of the feature in that when Facebook recently unveiled its most shared stories of 2011in the US, of the 40 most shared stories, 12 of them came from Yahoo!. Yahoo! Activity on News makes it easier to share and discover content on both Yahoo! News and Facebook.”

Further development around the activity and incorporation within other media properties across Yahoo!’s network will take place in the coming months.
