Coldplay are to star in a new advert for O2 to highlight that the mobile phone operator’s customers can get tickets for the band’s UK stadium tour 48 hours ahead of them going on general release.

The campaign, by VCCP, will highlight the band’s 2012 stadium tour, promoting the Priority Tickets for O2 customers, running from today (11 November) across TV, Radio, print and digital platforms and features a new version of ‘The Walk’ as it follows the band from their dressing room to the stage.

The advert will premiere on YouTube, but begin broadcasting on TV during Saturday’s episode of The X Factor.

A two-day homepage takeover of NME.com will also take place, supported by radio promotions on XFM and Capital and placements in The Metro and The Sun.

Media buying has been handled by Zenith Optimedia.

Sally Cowdry, marketing and consumer director for O2, said: “This campaign shows our continued commitment to bringing access to the very best acts for our customers. We’re passionate about finding new and innovative ways of working with top artists, and bringing to life the benefits of Priority Tickets for our customers.”

Tickets will go on sale to O2 customers on 16 November.
