The 2011 Affiliate Census indicates that the affiliate publishing sector is becoming increasingly professionalised and profitable for those participating.

Carried out by Econsultancy in partnership with Commission Junction, Affiliates4U and Argos, the census asked over 300 affiliates for their opinion on the state of the sector.

The most obvious change in the sector is the number of full-time affiliates, 46% compared with 34% in 2009. And there is widespread optimism among affiliates about what the future holds.

57% of those surveyed said that commissions have increased in the last year; 19% of those reporting an increase in commissions have enjoyed more than 100% growth in income over the same period.

Content remains the most important affiliate category, despite the rise of other categories such as voucher-code and cashback affiliates.
