Edinburgh publisher White Light Media is launching a new magazine all about booze.

Hot Rum Cow promises to tell the "intoxicating tale" of the history of drink, with stories about rum, piracy and the vineyards of Lebanon.

Publisher Fraser Allen said: "There are lots of magazines about food, and some of them are very good. There are fewer magazines about drinks, and none of them are like Hot Rum Cow.

"We believe this is a niche that is crying out for a cleverly written, beautifully designed magazine – and we’re having a great time bringing it to life."

White Light Media has worked on titles for Lloyds Banking Group, Standard Life and Channel 4 among others, but this is the first time it has created its own magazine for newsstands.

"The new venture will not have any impact on our client work – that always comes first – but a fresh challenge is always good to keep the creative fires burning," Allen said.

Issue one of the 100-page magazine will be distributed through selected newsagents in the New Year, with subscriptions made available online.

A 16-page sample issue can be read at http://www.hotrumcow.co.uk/.
