The Guardian has today become the latest publication to make its wares available in tablet form via the publication of a customised guardian app.

Created specifically for iPad users the software will allow readers to catch up with all the papers offline content and is compatible with Apple’s newly released Newsstand app.

This incorporates all the features you’d expect of the Apple device, including swipe based gestures, social media connectivity, video content and interactive advertising.

Sponsorship from Channel 4 will ensure free access to the app for the first three months after which users can sign up for a monthly subscription of £9.99.

Existing subscribers will receive the content free of charge.

Alan Rusbridger, editor-in-chief, Guardian News & Media, said: “The Guardian iPad edition is a new, fresh and appealing form of our newspaper content. By the time you've put on your coat and picked up your keys it will have downloaded to Newsstand - giving you a clean, portable, inviting version of the Guardian.

“The single daily download and the hierarchy of articles will suit people who love the Guardian’s newspaper content. To that we've added a selection of relevant web articles - a unique digital interpretation of our newspaper and yet another step on our digital-first strategy.”
