Spotify’s chief product officer, Gustav Soderstrom, has said that music is the natural next step for Facebook after photos.

In an interview with the Telegraph Soderstrom said: “I think it's going to mean that things spread even faster than before. An artist that gets picked up is going to spread faster within a market and also between markets."

Spotify was recently announced by Mark Zuckerberg as Facebook’s platform of choice for the dissemination of music between its 750m users, transforming the act of listening to music into a far more sociable experience.

Analysts are warning however that what may be a good deal for Facebook may be less so for Spotify with one witty Twitter user tweeting: “What do you get when you combine Facebook with Spotify? Facebook”

Spotify believes the tie up will encourage more users to sign up to the service and existing users to linger longer.
