Wagamama is to launch a new project with arts company Moniker Projects to get people talking about art while they are eating.

The project, entitled Art and Eat, will begin in London Spitalfields on 29 September, before installations in seven additional restaurants from Cardiff to Newcastle will roll out in October.

The restaurants will host the artwork on walls as well as the Wagamama placemats, which will feature in 73 Wagamama restaurants nationwide.

All of the artists have a connection with the area they will be exhibiting in, and artwork will be available to purchase via a series of limited edition prints available at wagamama.com/artandeat, with the proceeds going directly to the artists.

Customers will be encouraged to comment on the artwork while eating and submit their thoughts online for the chance to win limited edition prints and tickets to a whole host of cultural events across the UK.

Cedar Lewishon, one of the curators from Moniker Projects, said: “We and the artists are very excited to be working with wagamama on this project.

“Wagamama are the perfect partner to help bring some of the more underground elements of art to the public attention, via some of its most popular city centre restaurants across the UK.”
