Just five slots remain available for advertisers keen to establish a presence during the 2012 Super Bowl – NBC Sports have announced.

The broadcaster is confident it can flog the remainder before the year is out – and despite the NFL season not even having started, as it seeks bidders for the remaining 30 second ad slots.

Advertisers have been quick to stump up for the coverage despite slots being priced at a record $3.5m each with Pepsi and real estate firm Century21 amongst the early birds.

A host of celebrities are being lined up to front the commercials, including Pepsi’s courting of reality TV star Kim Kardashian.

One brand which won’t be taking up the offer is Mercedes Benz after the car manufacturer decided against a repeat of their 2011 Super Bowl campaign.
