The Drum has appointed former New Media Age publisher Andy Oakes as head of London Operations. He takes up the role with immediate effect.

As well as running New Media Age, Oakes was also responsible for Reputation Online and a variety of events and award schemes.

His remit will be to help establish The Drum in London and support events that are being launched in the capital, including the Social Buzz Awards and the Online Media Awards as well as Cream London and the Chip Shop Awards.

He said: “I’m delighted to be joining The Drum, especially at a time when they have exciting expansion plans. It’s always been a great title and is firmly established at the heart of the advertising, design and marketing community in the rest of the UK and I am now looking forward to growing the title’s influence in London.”

Editor and publisher of The Drum, Gordon Young, said: “The Drum’s website already has a high profile in the South East, and we are looking forward to building on this relationship with a strong magazine.

“With the closure of Design Week and New Media Age magazines key communities have been left without their own printed publication and The Drum, working with Andy, will now fill this significant gap in the market. Despite the growth of digital we believe print has still got a powerful role to play.

“However, The Drum’s DNA lies very much outside the M25 and it will retain its distinctive regional accent, making it the only truly UK-wide publication to serve the market.”
