The GoldenTwits 2011 has officially launched and this year, the event that aims to celebrate the very best in twittering, has joined forces with the Social Buzz Awards.

Last year the GoldenTwits attracted 20,000 entries and winners included Stephen Fry, Jason Manford and Alan Carr.

As well as celebrities charities also featured in the event with the likes of Stickaid, Help for Heroes and The Dog’s Trust attracting thousands of votes.

Entry into the event is free, and the judging is done in two parts. A public vote is used to create a shortlist out of the 1,000s of entries and then a panel – drawn from the Golden Twit Academy decides on the final results.

The Golden Twit Academy is made up of previous GoldenTwit Award winners and nominees. The mechanic ensures a broad-cross section of the best of the Twitterati is given the opportunity to judge and a list of those most recently inducted is published below.

Last year the GoldenTwits was run as a stand alone award scheme. However, this year the results will be announced as part of the Social Buzz Awards which takes place.

Said director Gordon Young: “The Social Buzz Awards is an effectiveness driven event for the social media scene. Announcing the results of the GoldenTwits at this prestigious event will underline the fact the Twitter, still viewed as a frivolous pursuit to some, is increasingly seen as a more serious and effective medium in its own right.”
