A toy car which fires missiles and issues orders to fellow cars is being tipped to top children’s Christmas wish lists this year thanks to the marketing might of Disney.

Loaded McMissile, voiced by Michael Caine, is the star of Disney Pixar’s latest animation Cars 2 and though we may still only be in June toy store Hamley’s are so sure they have a bonafide hit on their hands they’re touting it as the must have toy this Christmas.

At £40 the plastic replica comes equipped with its own pop up rocket launchers which rise out from the headlights and button activated voice commands delivered by the Cockney star.

Laura Olver, the head of buying at Hamleys, said: "The thing about Cars is that it is a great franchise. It is still popular five years after the first film was made. With many films the toys are very popular when the film first comes out but then drop in popularity very quickly.

"With Cars – and it's the same with Toy Story – there is real longevity because of the characters. They are just great characters."

Another top pick this year are the £20 a pop British designed Moshi Monsters, tactile toys that giggle and chatter when squeezed. Its makers claim one in two British children are registered on its website to trade and nurture their online avatars.
