The Football Association's director of marketing and communications Julian Eccles has quit the role with immediate effect.

The former director of communications at Ofcom was appointed by the FA a little more than a year ago by its former chief executive Ian Watmore.

FA general secretary Alex Horne said: “I would like to thank Julian for his contribution to The FA and wish him well for the future.

"He has been very professional throughout his time here and I am grateful to him for introducing a number of valuable initiatives and ideas to the organisation."

It is not yet clear why Eccles has decided to resign so suddenly. The FA has said it will be making no further comment at this time.
