Commercial wholesaler Makro is currently holding pitches for its PR account following the resignation of Tangerine PR.

The Manchester agency has resigned the account after two years with the client now down to a pitch list of two potential Manchester agencies competing to succeed Tangerine, although Simon Finch, head of internal PR admitted that it could also look to take communications in-house.

“It is true that we have agreed to go our separate ways and that it was the agency’s decision,” said Finch.

“Tangerine have been a key business partner for us. They were the first PR agency we appointed when we established a corporate communications function at Makro about two years ago. So they’ve been of great support and we’ve loved working with them and we respect their wishes to part company. The timing is absolutely perfect for us as we are celebrating 40 years in business this year, so we have some plans and are now looking for a fresh approach,” Finch continued.

“We’ve got some very ambitious plans coming up and we want to make sure that we have the right partners on board to tell our big story,” added Finch who reiterated that the separation was amicable.

Explaining the reason for resigning the account, Sandy Lindsay, group managing director for Tangerine said: “Sometimes client/agency relationships simply run their course. We’ve been proud to support Simon and his team for the past couple of years and wish Makro every success with its future growth plans.”

A decision by Makro is expected by the end of the month.
