Following concerns voiced by the Scottish PR industry, Glasgow University has removed the turnover threshold on its procurement criteria for a public relations and marketing firm to handle its global fundraising campaign.

A statement from the university said: “After listening to the concerns from a number of sources within the PR and marketing sector, we have chosen to halt the process and remove the threshold entirely.

“However, we will retain the exacting criteria to ensure that we find the best possible candidates for this project.

“The revised procurement documents will be reissued in due course.”

The U-turn also follows an article published on The Drum's website by Douglas McLachlan, a procurement expert at legal firm Biggart Baillie, who suggested that the University may have been breaching procurement law with its de facto exclusion of Scottish PR firms.
