Latest Scottish ABCs see Sun rising ahead of Record
The January audit bureau of circulation figures have shown the gap between Scotland’s two largest selling dailies has returned to more than 40,000 following a dip below that figure last month for the first time in six months.
The ABC average net circulation figures for January showed the gap between sales of The Scottish Sun and the Daily Record was 46,657. This figure had fell to 36,998 in December, and was 48,526 in November and 41,422 in October.
The Scottish Sun’s average daily figure for January was 340,666, compared to 314,897 in December, while the Daily Record’s daily sales average was 294,009, compared to 277,899.
The biggest average figure for a Scottish newspaper was for the Sunday Mail, which had an average sale of 352,232, up from 338,508 in December, while the biggest growth over the two months was The Scottish Sun which saw an increase of 25,769.
All titles showed a circulation increase between December and January with the exception of Sunday titles the Scottish Sunday Express and the Independent on Sunday.
Figures for the Scottish Daily Mail and the Scottish Mail on Sunday are unavailable.
