Rival mobile brands HTC and Samsung are looking to appoint new agencies to reinvigorate their social media strategies as they look to gain dominance in a competitive smartphone market.

Samsung is reportedly looking for a digital agency to handle its global social media account while HTC has approached agencies for its pan-European activity.

Both handset manufacturers are already active in social media, with Samsung being the first brand in the UK to advertise on YouTube’s mobile site and HTC currently running a campaign for its Wildfire handset on its Facebook page. The challenge for both brands is how to differentiate themselves in a crowded market.

HTC currently works with Glasgow digital agency Equator who was appointed by the brand in early 2009, while twentysix London has previously handled digital for Samsung.
