Dylan Thwaites, the founder and former CEO of Warrington-based search agency Latitude, has set up a new app development agency, May Contain Nuts.

Set up with Chess Telecoms founder David Pollock (the pair met after winning the Ernst & Young UK Technology Entrepreneur of the Year in consecutive years) the Manchester-based agency will have its official launch on 7 March, but has already been behind apps including LoopyLingo, SpinTheBottle, Talkback, BabyApp and AssassinMaster.

The most recent launch by the company is LogFire, which is a free app developed for Android tablet computers which aims to take the stress out of creating a romantic atmosphere for Valentines Day with its high quality looping video of a crackling fire accompanied with sound effects.

Thwaites said of the new app: “LogFire is our new app that works best on tablets – if you got the new Samsumg Galaxy this one is for you. It’s really simple but perfectly executed, HD quality video and real crackling logs sound makes it very realistic. We all feel better sitting around log fire, when we’ve tested this before launch it’s a real talking point and definitely gives a feel good kick. The perfect app for Valentines romance.”

Meanwhile, in the company’s blog, Pollock explains the thinking behind the launch, saying “Apps is the new frontier – it’s a bit like the California gold rush of the modern age.”

“The fastest way to learn about a new market is to start a business, invest your hard earned cash and make sure you get a return,” he continued.
