A minute-by-minute live blog tracking transfer updates on the Daily Record’s website attracted 22,500 visitors yesterday, with almost 4,500 comments posted.

Daily Record digital editor Iain Pope said of the interest surrounding the transfer window that he’d never seen anything like it, adding: “the traffic was astounding – at some points we were getting 50 to 60 comments every minute.”

The newspaper website utilised CoveritLive software to cover the transfer window deadline, allowing a two-way conversation with readers while reporting on each transfer as it unfolded.

Pope said the Daily Record website has used CoveritLive in the past to report on “everything from sporting events like Old Firm games and Andy Murray in the Australian Open final as well news events such as Budget Day, the Papal Visit, The X Factor final and even the recent Tommy Sheridan sentencing.”

Adverts elsewhere on the Daily Record site, along with a targeted Twitter and Facebook campaign, linked back to the live blog and helped increase traffic, with Pope admitting: "It was our most successful one-day live event by a factor of ten”.
