It is being reported that Egypt has severed its connections to the internet as the country's authorities ready for a day of protest.

The move has been taken after wide-spread protests spread across the country, much of the unrest co-ordinated via the internet.

It has been reported that a majority of Egypt's web-access has become unreachable and according to internet monitoring firm Renesys, late last night, virtually all routes to Egyptian networks were "simultaneously withdrawn" from the internet's global routing table.

Despite earlier denials from the Egyptian government that it was behind any online blocking, Egyptians had reported being unable to access social networks such as Twitter and Facebook at the start of the week.

It is now feared that other middle-eastern countries will follow suit.
