Halfords.com, the website for the UK's largest retailer of automotive, leisure and cycling products, was taken offline yesterday as a result of the company forgetting to renew its domain name.

Visitors to the website have been greeted by a page from hosting company Net Solutions, which reads: "If you are the current registrant for this domain name and wish to continue the registration on the domain, you must immediately contact the domain name provider and renew the domain name to ensure the name is not deleted."

The retailer has put this down to a “temporary administrative issue”.

Halfords tweeted: “There’s been an administrative issue with our website. The issue has now been resolved and the site should be accessible again shortly.”

At the time of writing the site was still down.
