Chester Zoo has commissioned the development of a smartphone app, with the aim of raising visitor numbers.

The zoo has tasked Apposing with the delivery of the iPhone and Android app, which will provide information on ticket buying, directions and the opportunity to plan their visits.

The GPS interactive map allows visitors to see where they are in the zoo, what animals are nearby and even their walking route.

A pocket animal encyclopedia with facts, videos and images about the zoo’s animals will also be involved in the free-to-download app.

Alasdair McNee, corporate director at Chester Zoo, said: "We are keen to enhance the visitor experience and to keep abreast with new technology. We looked at a number of off-the-shelf solutions but wanted to be in a position where we could create our own zoo app. We are able to do that with Apposing and from the start we have been impressed with their creativity and approach."

Apposing has also recently been commissioned to create apps for Liam Gallagher's Pretty Green clothing label, Liverpool's Echo Arena, Liverpool Biennial and Slazenger.
