Film director Tim Burton has unleashed his maverick streak on Twitter by enlisting his online followers in a unique ad-hoc script writing contest.

The unorthodox approach is designed to flesh out the character of Stainboy, a watercolour superhero

Followers read preceding 140 character instalments and then engage their own imaginations to fill in the blanks using the hashtag #BurtonStory.

The most imaginative are selected at the end of the each day as narration for the next micro chapter in the Daz deficient lad’s adventures.

Burton got the ball rolling with the line: “Stainboy, using his obvious expertise, was called in to investigate mysterious glowing goo on the gallery floor,” and eighteen posters have continued the story in the days since.

The project runs until Dec 6th, giving wannabe scriptwriters ample time (if not copy) to save Stainboy from a sticky demise.
