The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (RSAMD) is set to undertake a rebrand, The Drum has learned.

The internationally renowned drama and music institution, based in Glasgow, is understood to be considering a rebrand to become Glasgow Conservatoire.

A spokesperson for RSAMD confirmed to The Drum that it was set to enter a year-long consultation period over the possible name change, and that it had yet to inform its stakeholders.

The institute was founded in 1845 as the Glasgow Education Association and was later known as Glasgow Commercial College and in 1944 become the Royal Scottish Academy of Music before establishing a drama department in 1950.
