Channel 4 has restructured its Content & Commissioning Division to create a single online department, headed up by recently appointed head of online, Richard Davidson-Houston.

The restructure will see 4ip, the broadcaster’s digital co-investment arm merged into the existing Channel 4 teams, with digital format innovation resource continuing within Channel 4 online, alongside many of the key digital commissions in the West Midlands, in partnership with Screen WM which has jointly invested in those projects.

The investment was made through the Screen WM digital media fund, supported by regional development agency Advantage West Midlands.

Screen WM and Channel 4 intend to continue to work in partnership moving forwards. Suzie Norton, CEO of Screen WM, said: “4iP has been a huge success in its pilot phase, which now provides Screen WM with fantastic building blocks onto which we can continue to grow the West Midlands’ digital companies in this new era. Channel 4 is committed to working with the West Midlands and Screen WM and we look forward to working with them in this next phase.”

Stuart Cosgrove, Channel 4’s director of creative diversity, added: “The West Midlands is a key commissioning region for Channel 4 across all platforms including film and television and our ambitions is to grow our activities in the region, where some of our most successful shows such as the multi-award winning Embarrassing Bodies is produced.”
