Facebook founder befriends Oprah
Mark Zuckerberg has taken an unconventional approach to crisis PR, inviting the Oprah Winfrey Show round for tea.
The intimate peak at a formerly reclusive figure is an attempt to counter an unflattering portrayal of the Facebook head in Hollywood flick, The Social Network.
Despite being worth an estimated £4.4bn the 26 year old eschews the trappings of wealth to live in spartan rented accommodation. This frugality extends to clothing and possessions with Zuckerberg’s preferred attire being jeans and t-shirts and owning, seemingly, just one laptop.
It is an attempt to dispel his portrayal in the film as a socially awkward, calculating backstabber Zuckerberg has thrown open his doors in an attempt to burnish his image as just the ordinary billionaire next door neighbour.
Zuckerberg said: "It's a movie, it's fun, you know, a lot of it's fiction but even the filmmakers will say that. You know, they're trying to build a good story.
"I promise you, this is my life, so I know it's not that dramatic. The last six years have been a lot of coding, and focus, and hard work, but you know maybe it would be fun to remember it as partying and all this crazy drama."
