BT signs 15 millionth broadband user
BT has signed up its 15 millionth broadband user ten years after the high speed connection was launched in the UK.
It is now thought that three-quarters of UK homes and small businesses have access to broadband, with Virgin Media serving another 4.2 million customers through its cable network.
More than five million of the 15 million connections are through BT Retail and the rest are through other companies with access to the BT network.
Britain is ahead of countries such as Germany, France and the US in terms of high-speed broadband take up with BT saying it plans to invest a further £2.5 billion in even faster broadband connections which will offer fibre-optic cable to two-thirds of the country.
