Thorntons teams with Macdonalds Hotels for summer campaign

Thorntons chocolates has teamed up with Macdonalds Hotels & Resorts for a summer campaign to celebrate all things ‘Classic and British’.

The partnership has been formed ahead of Thornton’s new classic chocolates boxes launching in August, and will see the two brands work together on a number of joint marketing initiatives throughout August and September.

A series of Macdonalds Hotels competitions will be highlighted across all 600 Thornton’s UK stores from August, while guests at the hotels will also find Thorntons Classics on site during the two months of the campaign.

A weekend away package has also been created to offer ‘the classic British Break’ which will allow guests to book a two night break at any of the hotel groups’ 40 properties across the UK, where they will also receive a box of Thorntons Classics chocolates.

Ruaridh Macdonald, sales and marketing director at Macdonald Hotels & Resorts, explained; “As one of the best loved chocolate companies and a true classic brand, it is a real pleasure to continue to work with Thorntons following a successful Easter campaign earlier this year. This partnership represents our commitment to ensuring that we offer our guests quality experiences and value for money. In the current climate, guests are increasingly holidaying in the UK and we hope that the Classic British Break will help Britons to recognise the benefits of holidaying on their own soil this summer”.

Peter Wright, marketing director for Thorntons, added: “To celebrate the relaunch of our Classics brand this summer we wanted to work with a like-minded company that like Thorntons epitomises everything quintessentially British, and Macdonald Hotels and its Classic British Breaks was the perfect fit.

“The newly designed boxes of Classics will be in all Thorntons stores from the beginning of August and we decided to kick start the launch with the Macdonald Hotels partnership. We want to give the range stand out on shelf with a competition mechanic and offer our customers the chance to win a fantastic Classic British Break,” he continued.
