To some Eccles Shopping Centre may be populated by the living dead on any given weekday afternoon but undeterred by the competition ‘Let’s Go Global’, a creative media firm, have recruited a squad of house trained zombies to shamble up and down the towns shopping precinct this July 17.

Fortuitously for locals this invasion of slouching moaners aren’t in town to feast on brains but are in fact a troupe of actors recruited by the creative team as part of their, ‘pervasive gaming,’ remit.

This initiative aims to drag the experience of video gaming into the everyday by recreating virtual world scenes in real world environments.

Thus “frightening farmers,” “swarms of zombies” and “chilling performances” will put the frighteners up bargain hunters as they are chased away from their window shopping in an elaborate version of tig.

To put a stop to the teeming hordes shoppers will be asked to forego their favourite decapitation implements in favour of a series of four games that will run throughout the day.

These take the form of a series of video edits intended to create a “scary movie mash up,” completion of which will provide an antidote for the “zombie curse.”

The unconventional work is the brainchild of Hub, a pop up gallery which aims to foster links between Salford University and the city via interactive exhibitions.

Budding zombies are invited to turn up on the day in your scariest outfits prior to 11am to participate.
