The Drum has learned that Seafish has placed its creative tender on hold due to a legal battle that it is currently involved in.

The fishing authority had called a creative and media tender in April having previously commissioned Brahm to handle research for the campaign, which was completed at the end of May.

A spokesperson for Seafish explained that this process has had to be placed on hold until September while it goes through a legal process with a customer who has withheld ‘significant sums’ to the organisation.

Last year the authority won a court challenge from British Seafood Group which has withheld payments having challenged its requirement to pay the levy on importing raw materials to SeaFish. The ruling meant that around £2 million had to be paid alongside an immediate payment of £300,000 of costs.

The research carried out by Brahm ahead of the creative pitch included messages strategies for each of SeaFish’s target groups, defined after consultation with the seafood industry.

The primary message of the campaign was to centre about taste and versatility of seafood alongside promoting the health benefits in order to drive seafood consumption.
