There was a public outcry five years ago when Peter Kay was dropped as the face of John Smiths. But this weekend he returns with more no nonsense antics.

The TV ad hits screens this Sunday and sees Kay once again putting himself in an uncomfortable situation during a night out at a pub with friends.

A sneak preview of the new ad can be viewed on the John Smiths website.

The new ads have been developed by TBWA\London and speaking earlier this month, when Kay returned as the face of John Smiths at the John Smiths Grand National, Gareth Turner, senior brand manager for John Smiths, said: "We are living through some of the toughest times that anyone can remember and there has never been a better time to champion a return to the values of 'no nonsense' straight-talking and we know Peter Kay is the perfect man for the job."

When Kay was dropped as the face of John Smiths in 2005 there was a public campaign to bring him back after his no nonsense ads had introduced sayings such as "ave it"and "top bombing" to the public's lexicon.
