Comedian Peter Kay has agreed to return to advertising John Smiths after five years.

The straight talking series of ads became some of the most popular of the last decade, with the new ads being developed by TBWA/London.

Gareth Turner, senior brand manager for John Smiths, said: "We are living through some of the toughest times that anyone can remember and there has never been a better time to champion a return to the values of 'no nonsense' straight-talking and we know Peter Kay is the perfect man for the job."

The first series of ads will roll out from 3 May.
